A massive wave of grass fires has devastated the lives of hundreds of our friends, families and neighbors.

Members of the American Red Cross say the need is great and urgent.

Sunday,  the Tulsa Region Red Cross provided 250 breakfast meals and 250 lunch meals for emergency workers at the incident command center, and continues to provide beverages and snacks for first responders on-scene.

Red Cross shelters remain open in the following locations:

• Sand Springs - United Methodist Church Family Life Center at 101 W. 38^th Street
• Cushing - Cushing Senior Center at 203 E. Cherry

As we’ve seen across Oklahoma the last few days, once a wildfire begins it spreads rapidly and causes ruthless devastation. A simple change in wind direction or too little rain determines the difference between homes being spared or destroyed.

Today the Red Cross needs your help to bring invaluable assistance to those affected by the wildfires in Creek County and to prepare and respond to other disasters at home and around the world.

In Creek County fires have already scorched more than 50,000 acres and forced the evacuation of hundreds of  people.  As of today, your Red Cross has opened 5 shelters, served 1,229 meals/snacks, provided 1,126 bottles of water and given out 95 comfort kits. In our shelters, residents contact loved ones, rest and recover, or register on our Safe and Well website to let their friends and family know they’re safe.  Red Cross volunteers offer the resources and tools that will help them get back on their feet as quickly as possible.

Your donation supports costs associated with a disaster response, like food or the deployment of volunteers, and it also supports our year-round readiness and maintenance costs.
